p.2

Introduction

This inspection was carried out by Ofsted under Sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 on the quality and standards of the registered early years provision. ‘Early years provision’ refers to provision regulated by Ofsted for children from birth to 31 August following their fifth birthday (the early years age group). The registered person must ensure that this provision complies with the statutory framework for children’s learning, development and welfare, known as the Early Years Foundation Stage.

p.3

Introduction

The provider must provide a copy of this report to all parents with children at the setting where reasonably practicable. The provider must provide a copy of the report to any other person who asks for one, but may charge a fee for this service (The Childcare (Inspection) Regulations 2008 regulations 9 and 10).

p.3

Introduction

The setting also makes provision for children older than the early years age group which is registered on the voluntary and/or compulsory part(s) of the Childcare Register. This report does not include an evaluation of that provision, but a comment about compliance with the requirements of the Childcare Register is included in Annex B.

p.3

Introduction

There were no children on roll when this inspection took place. The findings in this report are based on evidence gathered from discussions with those who care for the children and an inspection of the premises, equipment and relevant documentation. Where there are no children on roll, no judgement is made on the quality of the early years provision as there is no reliable evidence on which to assess its impact on children. The report states if the provider continues to meet the requirements of registration.

p.3

Introduction

Please see our website for more information about each childcare provider. We publish inspection reports, conditions of registration and details of complaints we receive where we or the provider take action to meet the requirements of registration. This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006

p.3

Description of the childminding

The childminder was registered in 2003. She lives with her three children in the Stockwell area of the London borough of Lambeth. The living room and one of the bedrooms are used for childminding. There is a shared communal grassed area for outside play.

p.4

Description of the childminding

The childminder is registered on the Early Years Register and the compulsory and voluntary parts of the Childcare Register. She is registered to care for a maximum of four children under eight years at any one time, no more than two may be in the early years age range. No children were on roll at the time of the inspection.

p.4

The overall effectiveness of the early years provision

Following the previous inspection, the childminder has made suitable improvement meeting the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. The childminder through discussion demonstrates an understanding of her role and responsibility in safeguarding children. She is aware of some of the known indicators that may indicate a child may be at risk. The childminder describes the procedures to follow if concerned about a child in her care. She demonstrates an awareness of the need to conduct regular risk assessments to help keep children safe whilst on the premises and on outings.

p.4

The overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder has documentation ready for when new children start at the setting. For example, she intends to use forms to record children's individual details. The childminder has purchased an attendance register to record children's hours of attendance. She has maintained her first aid certificate. This helps to ensure parents of her ability to manage minor accidents and injuries to children with due attention. The childminder demonstrates an understanding of the procedures to follow regarding the administration of any medication. Documentation is in place to record any accidents and medication that children may have. A sick child policy is in place, which informs parents of exclusion periods, should their child become ill.

p.4

The overall effectiveness of the early years provision

Resources are limited but the childminder demonstrates that systems are in place to help ensure that children receive an enjoyable and challenging learning experiences. She will supplement her resources through visiting local children centres and borrowing equipment from the toy library. The childminder demonstrates that it is through these resources children will gain an understanding of valuing differences in society.

p.4

The overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder understands the importance of observing and assessing children's play and learning in order to help them make progress towards the early learning goals. She also understands that some children may require extra support, which may require her to develop partnerships with outside agencies. She further understands the importance of providing parents and/or carers with information about the early year's provision and their children's achievements. This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 The childminder demonstrates the importance of making ongoing continuous improvement. Through seeking support from the local authority and meeting all, the actions set at her previous inspection and through on-going training. For example, the childminder is halfway through completing a National Vocational Qualification at level 3 in childcare.
