p.2

Introduction

This inspection was carried out by Ofsted under Sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 on the quality and standards of the registered early years provision. ‘Early years provision’ refers to provision regulated by Ofsted for children from birth to 31 August following their fifth birthday (the early years age group). The registered person must ensure that this provision complies with the statutory framework for children’s learning, development and welfare, known as the Early Years Foundation Stage.

p.3

Introduction

The provider must provide a copy of this report to all parents with children at the setting where reasonably practicable. The provider must provide a copy of the report to any other person who asks for one, but may charge a fee for this service (The Childcare (Inspection) Regulations 2008 regulations 9 and 10).

p.3

Introduction

The setting also makes provision for children older than the early years age group which is registered on the voluntary and/or compulsory part(s) of the Childcare Register. This report does not include an evaluation of that provision, but a comment about compliance with the requirements of the Childcare Register is included in Annex B.

p.3

Introduction

There were no children on roll when this inspection took place. The findings in this report are based on evidence gathered from discussions with those who care for the children and an inspection of the premises, equipment and relevant documentation. Where there are no children on roll, no judgement is made on the quality of the early years provision as there is no reliable evidence on which to assess its impact on children. The report states if the provider continues to meet the requirements of registration.

p.3

Introduction

Please see our website for more information about each childcare provider. We publish inspection reports, conditions of registration and details of complaints we receive where we or the provider take action to meet the requirements of registration. This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006

p.3

Description of the setting

Sands End Adventure Project was registered in 1996. It operates from single storey purpose built premises at the end of a cul-de-sac in a residential area of Fulham. The local authority is Hammersmith and Fulham. Sands End Associated Projects in Action is a registered charity.

p.4

Description of the setting

There is a playroom and an art room for children's activities and there are toilet facilities for boys and girls. A grassy area and two fenced ball courts are available for ball games and other outdoor activities. The centre serves the local community and caters for children from four to 16 years of age.

p.4

Description of the setting

This provision is registered on the Early Years Register and on both the compulsory and voluntary parts of the Childcare Register. A maximum of 25 children aged five to eight years may attend at any one time. There are 284 children on roll at present.

p.4

Description of the setting

During school holidays, the project is open between the hours of 8am to 6pm on weekdays. During term time, the setting is open from 3pm to 7:30pm each week day. On Saturdays, the opening hours are 12pm to 5:00pm.

p.4

Description of the setting

The setting supports children with special educational needs and /or disabilities and also supports children who speak English as an additional language.

p.4

Description of the setting

The setting employs four staff members who are appropriately qualified in childcare. The setting receives support from the local authority childcare and development partnership.

p.4

The overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The setting provides some positive play opportunities for children to support their learning. The staff team are well deployed as they spend the majority of their time chatting, listening and responding where possible to children's choices of play. Children's welfare is promoted through an appropriate range of policies and procedures which help to keep them safe. There are sound measures in place to gather essential information about children's individual needs to ensure that continuity of care is promoted within the provision. The staff team demonstrate a positive approach towards implementing improvements to the provision; they have worked hard to address previous actions raised on inspection and they are keen to now develop their self-evaluation processes.

p.4

Compliance with registration requirements

In order to continue to meet the requirements of registration, the registered person must take the following action by the specified date: This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006  ensure at least one person who has a current first paediatric first aid certificate must be on the premises at all times when children are present (Safeguarding and promoting children's welfare) ( ALSO CCR and VCR ) 10/06/2011 This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006
