p.2

Introduction

This inspection was carried out by Ofsted under Sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 on the quality and standards of the registered early years provision. ‘Early years provision’ refers to provision regulated by Ofsted for children from birth to 31 August following their fifth birthday (the early years age group). The registered person must ensure that this provision complies with the statutory framework for children’s learning, development and welfare, known as the Early Years Foundation Stage.

p.3

Introduction

The provider must provide a copy of this report to all parents with children at the setting where reasonably practicable. The provider must provide a copy of the report to any other person who asks for one, but may charge a fee for this service (The Childcare (Inspection) Regulations 2008 regulations 9 and 10).

p.3

Introduction

The setting also makes provision for children older than the early years age group which is registered on the voluntary and/or compulsory part(s) of the Childcare Register. This report does not include an evaluation of that provision, but a comment about compliance with the requirements of the Childcare Register is included in Annex B.

p.3

Introduction

There were no children on roll when this inspection took place. The findings in this report are based on evidence gathered from discussions with those who care for the children and an inspection of the premises, equipment and relevant documentation. Where there are no children on roll, no judgement is made on the quality of the early years provision as there is no reliable evidence on which to assess its impact on children. The report states if the provider continues to meet the requirements of registration.

p.3

Introduction

Please see our website for more information about each childcare provider. We publish inspection reports, conditions of registration and details of complaints we receive where we or the provider take action to meet the requirements of registration. This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006

p.4

The childminder walks to local schools to take and collect children.

p.4

The overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder does not meet all the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. Since registration, the childminder has not developed sufficient understanding of the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage to assist her in implementing all of the requirements. The childminder has limited systems in place to self-evaluate her practice effectively. This affects her ability to identify sound areas for continuous improvement to meet Early Years Foundation Stage, the childcare and voluntary register. As a result, this inspection identified breaches of requirements on all three registers. The childminder understands the importance of attending training workshops to enhance her skills and knowledge. She has attended a number of training courses which include Early Years Foundation Stage, level 3 National Vocation training in play work, home- based childcare diploma food safety in catering, health and safety awareness and first aid.

p.4

The overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder's home is clean and comfortable; however, there is a limited range of play resources to support children's learning and development in all areas. The overall welfare of children is safeguarded because the childminder demonstrates a commitment to act in their best interests at all times. She has a sound awareness of the possible signs and symptoms of abuse and understands the procedures to follow to report concerns.

p.4

The overall effectiveness of the early years provision

Satisfactory safety awareness is demonstrated however, the fire blanket is kept on the shelf in the kitchen and is not yet installed ready for use This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 The childminder has a few policies and procedures to support her practice. These include behaviour management, the procedure to be followed in the event of a child going missing, fire safety and complaints. However, she is yet to develop risk assessments for inside and outdoors, for outings and the procedure to be followed in the event of a child not being collected at the appointed time.

p.4

The overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder has a current first aid certificate. All the required systems are in place to ensure information about children's health, safety and welfare are recorded. Through discussion, the childminder suitably demonstrates how children will be encouraged to learn about a healthy lifestyle by promoting healthy eating habits and engaging in daily outdoor play and exercise by visiting the local park and communal areas.

p.5

The overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder is fully aware of the benefits of working in partnership with parents and others. Through discussion, she demonstrates how parents will be involved in their child's care and learning from the outset; and how she will gather detailed information from them about their child to enable her to meet their specific individual care needs. She also describes suitable arrangements for keeping them well informed about their child's progress, for example, sharing developmental records and maintaining a daily diary.
