p.3

Overall effectiveness of the improvement and outcomes for children

Since the inspection the childminder has made satisfactory progress overall in addressing the weaknesses and meeting the welfare requirements. She has worked cooperatively with the early years advisor and acted upon advice to produce an action plan to address the weaknesses identified at the inspection.

p.3

Overall effectiveness of the improvement and outcomes for children

To ensure the suitability of adults, the childminder has obtained Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) disclosure application forms for her adult children who live at home. Whilst awaiting the completion suitability checks, the childminder ensures she supervises the children herself and that anyone not checked does not have unsupervised contact with the children. The childminder had improved her systems for managing the setting by obtaining contact details and information from parents of all the children in her care; recording relevant information about the children's needs and obtaining permissions for parents, for example to seek emergency medical advice or treatment. These measures contribute to ensuring children are better safeguarded and help the childminder meet their individual needs.

p.3

Overall effectiveness of the improvement and outcomes for children

Action has been taken to promote the good health of children by ensuring fresh drinking water is readily available. Drinks, including water, are placed where children can see and access them without adult help, which enables them to make choices and supports their independence. Additionally, the childminder has in place suitable procedures to prevent the spread of infection, for instance by using anti-bacterial spray after every use of the changing mat. Hygiene procedures are also included in the risk assessment.

p.3

Overall effectiveness of the improvement and outcomes for children

Safety in the home has improved as the childminder has reviewed and implemented an emergency evacuation procedure, which she practises with the children and logs the details. The childminder has produced a comprehensive risk assessment which covers all areas of the home, indoors and outdoors. This enables the childminder to identify potential hazards and take action to minimise the risk to children, helping children feel safe within the environment.

p.3

Overall effectiveness of the improvement and outcomes for children

The childminder has also made some progress towards completing the outstanding actions and requirements, by considering her own training needs and working with the early years advisor to identify relevant training.
