Type of setting Childminder This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006

p.1

Introduction

This inspection was carried out by Ofsted under Sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 on the quality and standards of the registered early years provision. ‘Early years provision’ refers to provision regulated by Ofsted for children from birth to 31 August following their fifth birthday (the early years age group). The registered person must ensure that this provision complies with the statutory framework for children’s learning, development and welfare, known as the Early Years Foundation Stage.

p.2

Introduction

The report includes information on any complaints about the childcare provision which Ofsted has received since the last inspection or registration whichever is the later, which require Ofsted or the provider to take action in Annex C.

p.2

Introduction

The provider must provide a copy of this report to all parents with children at the setting where reasonably practicable. The provider must provide a copy of the report to any other person who asks for one, but may charge a fee for this service (The Childcare (Inspection) Regulations 2008 regulations 9 and 10).

p.2

Introduction

The setting also makes provision for children older than the early years age group which is registered on the voluntary and/or compulsory part(s) of the Childcare Register. This report does not include an evaluation of that provision, but a comment about compliance with the requirements of the Childcare Register is included in Annex B. This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006

p.2

Description of the childminding

The childminder has been registered since 2004. She lives with her husband and their two children aged eight and 11 years in Clapham in the London Borough of Lambeth. The whole of the childminder's flat except for the master bedroom is used for childminding.

p.3

Description of the childminding

The childminder is registered to care for a maximum of four children at any one time and is currently minding three within the early years age group full and part- time. The childminder walks to local schools to take and collect children and attends the local parent/toddler group. This childminder is registered by Ofsted on the compulsory and voluntary parts of the Childcare Register.

p.3

Overall effectiveness of the early years provision

Overall the quality of the provision is good. Children are cared for in an well organised environment where an excellent range of toys and equipment are provided to promote all the areas of learning. The effectiveness of positive inclusive practise is promoted through the childminder working in partnership with parents and closely with the children's pre-school groups. The childminder is aware of her strengths and weaknesses and strives to make improvement through attending various training course relating to the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework.

provision

Effective organisation and promoting children's education and welfare ensures children's individual needs are met. Comprehensive policies and procedures in place demonstrate the childminder has a sound understanding of protecting and safeguarding children in her care. Systems in place promote good health and safety routines and working in partnership with parents. For example, procedures for administering medication and recording accidents. The childminder has a fire evacuation procedure in place to ensure that children evacuate the premises safely. However, the childminder has no written documentation on how risk assessments are carried out for indoors and out.

provision

The childminder has completed a first aid course and several courses which reflect in her care provided. All children have written profiles in place which clearly demonstrates how children are learning and developing covering all of the six This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 areas of learning. Relationships with parents are very good, time is set aside each day to share information with parents, they also have access to their children's progress reports and a comments sheet is available for their feedback. This keeps parents up to date and enables them to contribute to their children's learning and development to ensure that they achieve effectively. The successfulness of working in partnership with parents allows the childminder to discuss any sensitive issues relating to areas of concerns, such as issues surrounding learning difficulties or disabilities. The childminder demonstrates a positive attitude to meeting the

The quality and standards of the early years provision

Children are happy and settled in an environment that provides quality care and education. They have access to an excellent range of resources and equipment to enable them to develop and learn. Documentation includes the childminder keeping written and photographic evidence of what children do whilst in her care. Each day children participate in a varied range of indoor and outdoor activities. For example, benefit from art and craft, making use of the paint easel using a range of colours. Children learn their colours and are able to match them through their creative development. The childminder consistently talks to the children asking them open ended questions to make them think. Children talk well, and are able to explain to the childminder what they want. The range of books available allows for children to look at pictures and enjoy stories, this also allows them to ask questions and enhance their communication and language skills. Observation

clearly demonstrates that the childminder has a positive relationship with the children. She spends quality time with them to ensure that their individual needs are identified and met. Children are able to develop their personal, social and emotional skills through attending many of the local children's groups where they are able to meet other children and adults. Children frequently learn about what is happening in the world around them, developing their knowledge and understanding of the world. Children learn about other cultures through the childminder talking to the children about her own culture, such as her national costume/scarf she wears. Children also have access to a range of books, dolls and small world people that reflects positive images of the various cultures and disabilities.

The quality and standards of the early years provision

Children's health is effectively promoted. Routines ensure they establish good hygiene routines, such as, hand washing before meals. Meals are discussed with parents prior to placement. Parents have a choice on whether they wish for the childminder to provide meals. All meals provided are freshly prepared and cooked each day. Children also participate in preparing the meals for example, on the day of the inspection they chose to have olives and cheese on their pizza. Observations clearly demonstrate meals offered are balanced and nutritious. Drinks are readily available and children can ask for one at any time. The outcome for children being provided by the childminder clearly reflect in the individual care and learning provided. This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006
