Type of setting Childminder This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006

p.1

Introduction

This inspection was carried out by Ofsted under Sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 on the quality and standards of the registered early years provision. ‘Early years provision’ refers to provision regulated by Ofsted for children from birth to 31 August following their fifth birthday (the early years age group). The registered person must ensure that this provision complies with the statutory framework for children’s learning, development and welfare, known as the Early Years Foundation Stage.

p.2

Introduction

The provider must provide a copy of this report to all parents with children at the setting where reasonably practicable. The provider must provide a copy of the report to any other person who asks for one, but may charge a fee for this service (The Childcare (Inspection) Regulations 2008 regulations 9 and 10).

p.2

Introduction

The setting also makes provision for children older than the early years age group which is registered on the voluntary and/or compulsory part(s) of the Childcare Register. This report does not include an evaluation of that provision, but a comment about compliance with the requirements of the Childcare Register is included in Annex B.

p.2

Introduction

There were no children on roll when this inspection took place. The findings in this report are based on evidence gathered from discussions with those who care for the children and an inspection of the premises, equipment and relevant documentation. Where there are no children on roll, no judgement is made on the quality of the early years provision as there is no reliable evidence on which to assess its impact on children. The report states if the provider continues to meet the requirements of registration. This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006

Description of the childminding

The childminder was registered in 2004. She lives with her husband and four children aged 13, ten, eight and six years. They live in a large house in a residential are in Stratford in the London borough of Newham close to local parks, schools and other amenities.

p.3

Description of the childminding

The whole of the house is to be used for childminding with the exception of the loft. There is a fully enclosed garden available for outside play.

p.3

Description of the childminding

The childminder is registered to care for a maximum of five children at any one time, of these, not more than three may be in the early years age group. Currently there are no children on roll. The childminder is registered on the Early Years Register and the compulsory and voluntary parts of the Childcare Register.

p.3

Overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder meets the requirements of the Early years foundation Stage. The childminder provides a safe and clean environment for play and care and has a good range of suitable toys and resources for children in the early years age range. Risk assessments are undertaken and policies and procedures are in place. The quality of care that children would receive is enhanced by the childminder's good understanding of regulatory matters, record keeping, safeguarding and how to help children to learn and develop.

p.3

Overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder has attended an Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) briefing session and has demonstrated an understanding of how to plan and provide activities and use everyday routines and experiences to enable children to make progress. The childminder demonstrated a good knowledge about what should be included as part of the curriculum and is familiar with the six areas of learning.

p.3

Overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder has systems in place to develop effective partnerships with parents and others. There are good systems for exchanging information with parents to ensure that the childminder would be able to meet children's needs and to ensure that parents are well informed. The childminder has an understanding of the welfare requirements and how to promote children's sense of well-being effectively. The childminder has made all the improvements recommended at the last inspection.
