p.1
Introduction
This inspection was carried out by Ofsted under Sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 on the quality and standards of the registered early years provision. ‘Early years provision’ refers to provision regulated by Ofsted for children from birth to 31 August following their fifth birthday (the early years age group). The registered person must ensure that this provision complies with the statutory framework for children’s learning, development and welfare, known as the Early Years Foundation Stage.
p.2
Introduction
The provider must provide a copy of this report to all parents with children at the setting where reasonably practicable. The provider must provide a copy of the report to any other person who asks for one, but may charge a fee for this service (The Childcare (Inspection) Regulations 2008 regulations 9 and 10).
p.2
Introduction
The setting also makes provision for children older than the early years age group which is registered on the voluntary and/or compulsory part(s) of the Childcare Register. This report does not include an evaluation of that provision, but a comment about compliance with the requirements of the Childcare Register is included in Annex B. This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006

Description of the childminding
The childminder has been registered since 2000. She lives with her husband two adult children and a child aged 11 years in Leicester. The whole of the childminders house is used for childminding and there is a fully enclosed garden available for outside play. The premises is accessed via a path to the front.
p.3
Description of the childminding
The childminder is registered to care for six children under eight years at any one time. There are currently 14 children on roll, three of whom are within the early years age range. This provision is registered by Ofsted on the Early Years Register and on both the compulsory and voluntary parts of the Childcare Register.
p.3
Description of the childminding
The childminder has arrangements to support children with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. She takes and collects children from local schools and pre- schools. The family has a pet dog, rabbit and parrot.
p.3
Overall effectiveness of the early years provision
Overall the quality of the provision is satisfactory. In general children's welfare and learning are supported appropriately. Children are cared for in a welcoming and inclusive environment where they have independent access to a range of age- appropriate toys and resources. The friendly and informal relationships that are developed with parents ensures regular exchanges of information which supports the continuity of children's care and some areas of their learning. The childminder demonstrates a suitable commitment to developing her service but the limited systems in place to monitor and evaluate the quality of provision has resulted in weaknesses in her service not being identified or addressed.

provision
The childminder shows a suitable commitment to improving outcomes for children. She has met the recommendation from the last inspection in relation to improving arrangements for administering medication and she is currently updating her first aid certificate. However, there is no effective system in place to ensure weaknesses are identified and addressed. For example, although a risk assessment of the premises is in place it is not effective in identifying and minimising all potential hazards and it does not cover outings to ensure children are kept safe at all times. In addition, whilst the childminder has a generally sound knowledge and understanding of child protection and of the action she should take in the event of having a concern for a child's welfare, she has not notified Ofsted of a significant event in relation to her son reaching the age of 16 years.

provision
Children are suitably supported to achieve well. The childminder creates a child friendly environment where all children are included. There is a dedicated playroom that includes a comfy area to rest and a large outdoor play area with a wide range of stimulating large and small equipment for children to use. The childminder provides children with positive interaction and a suitable range of experiences. However, she is not yet effectively matching children's achievements to the expectations of the early learning goals in order to identify their learning priorities and to support them to make as much progress as they can.
p.4
provision
The childminder recognises the value of working in partnership with parents. Children's care needs are met as the childminder actively welcomes their families into her home to exchange information in relation to children's individual needs, achievements and progress. However, partnerships with other providers are not yet developed to fully support continuity and cohesion in children's learning.
p.4
The quality and standards of the early years provision
Children's learning and development is suitably promoted, and as a result they make generally satisfactory progress towards the early learning goals. The childminder organises her day around the needs and interests of the children. During activities and routines she interacts with them playing, listening and talking to them which supports their communications skills, self-esteem and confidence. Encouragement, praise and distraction is used generally well to manage children's behaviour and support them in learning what is right and wrong and why.
p.4
The quality and standards of the early years provision
Children benefit from mainly child-led activities which enables them to follow their own interest and initiate their own play. The range of resources in the playroom enables them to play imaginatively with a wide range of small world resources that include some simple technology toys. Children design and problem solve with the range of construction resource and jigsaws and enjoy recognising numbers and counting prompted by number posters around the room. They have opportunities to socialise with children of different age ranges who also attend the setting and to take develop an interest in the range of animals in the setting. Children also enjoy activities which are selected and prepared by the childminder such as painting and This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 playdough. However, whilst children are making generally satisfactory progress in their development, the childminder's limited knowledge of the learning and

development requirements of the EYFS means that in some play experiences offered do not fully challenge or explore all areas of children's learning.
p.5
The quality and standards of the early years provision
Children learn about key safety issues such as road safety and how to use outdoor equipment safely, although their risk of accidental injury is not fully minimised when playing outdoors and on outings. Opportunities for children to develop their physical skills and enjoy the fresh air are good. They are able to run around the large grassed area, climb the large outdoor equipment and jump on the trampoline. Routines and discussion provide some opportunities for children to develop their awareness about healthy living. This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006
