p.1

Unique reference number 117033 Inspection date 17/03/2009 Inspector Aileen Ewins

p.1

Type of setting Childminder This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006

p.1

Introduction

This inspection was carried out by Ofsted under Sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 on the quality and standards of the registered early years provision. ‘Early years provision’ refers to provision regulated by Ofsted for children from birth to 31 August following their fifth birthday (the early years age group). The registered person must ensure that this provision complies with the statutory framework for children’s learning, development and welfare, known as the Early Years Foundation Stage.

p.2

Introduction

The report includes information on any complaints about the childcare provision which Ofsted has received since the last inspection or registration whichever is the later, which require Ofsted or the provider to take action in Annex C.

p.2

Introduction

The provider must provide a copy of this report to all parents with children at the setting where reasonably practicable. The provider must provide a copy of the report to any other person who asks for one, but may charge a fee for this service (The Childcare (Inspection) Regulations 2008 regulations 9 and 10).

p.2

Introduction

The setting also makes provision for children older than the early years age group which is registered on the voluntary and/or compulsory part(s) of the Childcare Register. This report does not include an evaluation of that provision, but a comment about compliance with the requirements of the Childcare Register is included in Annex B.

p.2

Introduction

There were no children on roll when this inspection took place. The findings in this report are based on evidence gathered from discussions with those who care for the children and an inspection of the premises, equipment and relevant documentation. Where there are no children on roll, no judgement is made on the quality of the early years provision as there is no reliable evidence on which to assess its impact on children. The report states if the provider continues to meet the requirements of registration. This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006

p.2

Description of the childminding

The childminder was registered in 1999. She lives with her husband and their two children aged 19 and seven years. They live in Whitely Wood, Reading. The whole of the ground floor is used for childminding and the bathroom and one bedroom on the first floor. There is an enclosed garden available for outside play.

p.3

Description of the childminding

The childminder is registered on the Early Years Register and the compulsory part and the voluntary part of the Childcare Register. The childminder is registered to care for a maximum of five children under eight years of age at any one time. Of these only three may be in the early years age group. Currently there are no children on roll within the early years age group.

p.3

Overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder meets the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. The childminder does not have any children on roll currently but since the last inspection has taken on board the need to continually assess the quality of the provision of care she provides. For example she has taken part in Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) training and acquainted herself with the learning and development aspects. The childminder has also taken support and advice from the local authority Early Years development worker in order to help her prepare policies and procedures which promote an inclusive and safe environment for the children. The childminder has acted upon the need to continually risk assess the environment in which children will use and has identified and acted upon hazards noted and the actions set at the last inspection.
