Type of setting Childminder This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006

p.1

Introduction

This inspection was carried out by Ofsted under Sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 on the quality and standards of the registered early years provision. ‘Early years provision’ refers to provision regulated by Ofsted for children from birth to 31 August following their fifth birthday (the early years age group). The registered person must ensure that this provision complies with the statutory framework for children’s learning, development and welfare, known as the Early Years Foundation Stage.

p.2

Introduction

The report includes information on any complaints about the childcare provision which Ofsted has received since the last inspection or registration whichever is the later, which require Ofsted or the provider to take action in Annex C.

p.2

Introduction

The provider must provide a copy of this report to all parents with children at the setting where reasonably practicable. The provider must provide a copy of the report to any other person who asks for one, but may charge a fee for this service (The Childcare (Inspection) Regulations 2008 regulations 9 and 10).

p.2

Introduction

The setting also makes provision for children older than the early years age group which is registered on the voluntary and/or compulsory part(s) of the Childcare Register. This report does not include an evaluation of that provision, but a comment about compliance with the requirements of the Childcare Register is included in Annex B. This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006

p.2

Description of the childminding

The childminder registered in 2008 and lives in the Peckham area of Southwark with her husband and four children, one of whom is under eight years. Children have access to all areas of the home, except three of the bedrooms. They have access to a secure enclosed garden for outside play. The childminder is registered on the Early Years Register, and compulsory and voluntary parts of the Childcare Register and is registered to care for a maximum of four children at any one time. Of these, three may be in the early years age group, of whom one may be under one year old. There are currently two children in the early years age group on roll.

p.3

Overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder provides a good service in an inclusive environment which nurtures children's learning and development. Working closely with children's parents and the local authority, the childminder clearly understands her responsibilities in all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage. The childminder monitors the provision and clearly evaluates strengths and areas for improvement to support her ongoing good practice.

provision

The childminder provides a homely, safe and welcoming environment which is organised well to support the welfare and development of children attending. She clearly understands her responsibility to safeguarding the children in her care and has appropriate procedures in place to support her work. The childminder has a particularly good knowledge of children's individual needs and establishes a supportive relationship with parents to enable her to get to know the children well. She demonstrates a commitment to ongoing improvements to the service and to working with the local authority in meeting aims in the Early Years Foundation Stage. Training has been accessed consistently since registration and has allowed the childminder to build on her strengths in all areas. The childminder monitors and evaluates her provision and regularly accesses training in areas which will improve her service.

p.3

The quality and standards of the early years provision

The childminder shows commitment to and an enthusiasm for providing good quality childcare in her home. As an experienced mother of five children, the This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 childminder provides a warm and caring environment where the children feel settled and part of her family. Children behave well and are happy and settled with the childminder. She helps the children make progress in their learning and development by regularly observing and recording what the children do in their play and by talking to parents about their children's skills and interests. Activities are planned to give children a wide breadth of experiences and include a range of both indoor and outdoor activities. The childminder communicates well with children, encourages them to concentrate whilst she reads to them and extends their large physical skills using slides, trikes and sit in cars. Children enjoy playing

with the minder's own children also after the school day and often use home made play dough and paint interesting pictures which the childminder uses to support her assessment of children's skills.

p.4

The quality and standards of the early years provision

Children make good use of accessible resources which include puzzles and books that reflect different ways of life. There are less resources which reflect disability, however. The childminder demonstrates a clear understanding of the welfare requirements and all policies and procedures are in place and shared with children's parents. Children's health and well-being are promoted in a clean and well maintained environment and they benefit from regular water, well balanced meals and snacks and regular opportunities for physical exercise and outdoor play. Children enjoy regular trips to the library at Peckham and to local toddler groups where they have opportunities to socialise and mix with their peers. This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006
