p.1

Unique reference number 138480 Inspection date 16/03/2009 Inspector Katie Dempster

p.1

Type of setting Childminder This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006

p.1

Introduction

This inspection was carried out by Ofsted under Sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 on the quality and standards of the registered early years provision. ‘Early years provision’ refers to provision regulated by Ofsted for children from birth to 31 August following their fifth birthday (the early years age group). The registered person must ensure that this provision complies with the statutory framework for children’s learning, development and welfare, known as the Early Years Foundation Stage.

p.2

Introduction

The report includes information on any complaints about the childcare provision which Ofsted has received since the last inspection or registration whichever is the later, which require Ofsted or the provider to take action in Annex C.

p.2

Introduction

The provider must provide a copy of this report to all parents with children at the setting where reasonably practicable. The provider must provide a copy of the report to any other person who asks for one, but may charge a fee for this service (The Childcare (Inspection) Regulations 2008 regulations 9 and 10).

p.2

Introduction

The setting also makes provision for children older than the early years age group which is registered on the voluntary and/or compulsory part(s) of the Childcare Register. This report does not include an evaluation of that provision, but a comment about compliance with the requirements of the Childcare Register is included in Annex B.

p.2

Introduction

There were no children on roll when this inspection took place. The findings in this report are based on evidence gathered from discussions with those who care for the children and an inspection of the premises, equipment and relevant documentation. Where there are no children on roll, no judgement is made on the quality of the early years provision as there is no reliable evidence on which to assess its impact on children. The report states if the provider continues to meet the requirements of registration. This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006

p.2

Description of the childminding

The childminder was registered in 2000. She lives with her husband and two children aged six and nine years in a residential area of Ruislip in the London borough of Hillingdon. The downstairs and two bedrooms upstairs are used for childminding and there is a fully enclosed garden for outside play.

p.3

Description of the childminding

The childminder is registered to care for a maximum of two children under eight years at any one time, with no more than two in the early years age group. The childminder currently has no children on roll. The childminder is registered on the Early Years Register and the compulsory and voluntary parts of the Childcare Register.

p.3

Overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder meets the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. The childminder takes steps to ensure she provides a safe, secure and welcoming environment for children. She ensures that the home is safe for children as she has identified and addressed potential hazards. She has a good knowledge and understanding of safeguarding issues and the reporting procedures to follow if concerned about a child. Through discussion, the childminder was able to demonstrate her understanding of the importance of working in partnership with parents and others, as a means of sharing information and to identify and support children's individual needs.

p.3

Overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder has begun to evaluate her practice and has identified this as an area to develop when she has children on roll. Furthermore, she has addressed the previous recommendations set at her last inspection. Toys, resources and activities are provided to support children's understanding of diversity and the wider world, this is an example of the childminder's inclusive practice.
