Type of setting Childminder This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006

p.1

Introduction

This inspection was carried out by Ofsted under Sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 on the quality and standards of the registered early years provision. ‘Early years provision’ refers to provision regulated by Ofsted for children from birth to 31 August following their fifth birthday (the early years age group). The registered person must ensure that this provision complies with the statutory framework for children’s learning, development and welfare, known as the Early Years Foundation Stage.

p.2

Introduction

The provider must provide a copy of this report to all parents with children at the setting where reasonably practicable. The provider must provide a copy of the report to any other person who asks for one, but may charge a fee for this service (The Childcare (Inspection) Regulations 2008 regulations 9 and 10).

p.2

Introduction

The setting also makes provision for children older than the early years age group which is registered on the voluntary and/or compulsory part(s) of the Childcare Register. This report does not include an evaluation of that provision, but a comment about compliance with the requirements of the Childcare Register is included in Annex B.

p.2

Introduction

There were no children on roll when this inspection took place. The findings in this report are based on evidence gathered from discussions with those who care for the children and an inspection of the premises, equipment and relevant documentation. Where there are no children on roll, no judgement is made on the quality of the early years provision as there is no reliable evidence on which to assess its impact on children. The report states if the provider continues to meet the requirements of registration. This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006

p.2

Description of the childminding

The childminder was registered in 2002. She lives with her partner and three children aged 8, 6 and 4 years in the Mereclough area of Burnley. Minded children are able to access the whole of the ground floor of the property with the exception of the main bedroom and study. Children do not have access to an outdoor play area within the setting, however, they are regularly taken on outings and walks, including trips to the park. The childminder walks or drives to local schools to take and collect children. She attends the local toddler group.

p.3

Description of the childminding

The childminder is registered on the Early Years Register and the compulsory and voluntary parts of the Childcare Register. There were no children within the early years age range present during the visit.

p.3

Overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder does not meet all the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She has a satisfactory understanding of child development and how to plan for individual children’s interests and abilities. She is able to demonstrate through discussion, a range of activities likely to promote all areas of learning. However, her knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage learning and development requirements is limited.

p.3

Overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder demonstrates a positive commitment to inclusion and there are a variety of toys and resources to enable children to value and respect differences. She has a sound understanding of safeguarding procedures and child protection. Since the last inspection the childminder has addressed actions raised by completing the required first aid training and holds a valid certificate. She is scheduled to attend further childcare training to develop her knowledge and improve her practice; this demonstrates her capacity to improve.

p.3

Overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder has implemented effective safety precautions to ensure a safe environment for children. For example, risk assessments have been conducted and are regularly reviewed. The childminder has implemented a range of written policies and procedures, which she shares with parents. These are informative and comply with regulations. She has systems in place to gather good information from parents about their child upon admission. This means the uniqueness of every child is considered.

p.3

Compliance with registration requirements

In order to continue to meet the requirements of registration, the registered person must take the following action by the specified date:
