Wroughton After School Club Inspection report for early years provision

Unique reference number EY380351 Inspection date 17/09/2008 Inspector Helen Barter

p.1

Setting address Wroughton County Infant School, Wharf Road, Wroughton, SWINDON, SN4 9LE Telephone number 01793 778327 Email janbodin1@aol.com Type of setting Childcare on non-domestic premises This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006

p.1

Introduction

This inspection was carried out by Ofsted under Sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 on the quality and standards of the registered early years provision. ‘Early years provision’ refers to provision regulated by Ofsted for children from birth to 31 August following their fifth birthday (the early years age group). The registered person must ensure that this provision complies with the statutory framework for children’s learning, development and welfare, known as the Early Years Foundation Stage.

p.2

Introduction

The provider must provide a copy of this report to all parents with children at the setting where reasonably practicable. The provider must provide a copy of the report to any other person who asks for one, but may charge a fee for this service (The Childcare (Inspection) Regulations 2008 regulations 9 and 10).

p.2

Introduction

Children only attend this setting before and/or after the school day and/or during the school holidays. The judgements in this report reflect the quality of early years provision offered to children during those periods.

p.2

Introduction

The setting also makes provision for children older than the early years age group which is registered on the voluntary and/or compulsory part(s) of the Childcare Register. This report does not include an evaluation of that provision, but a comment about compliance with the requirements of the Childcare Register is included in Annex B.

p.2

Introduction

There were no children on roll when this inspection took place. The findings in this report are based on evidence gathered from discussions with those who care for the children and an inspection of the premises, equipment and relevant documentation. Where there are no children on roll, no judgement is made on the quality of the early years provision as there is no reliable evidence on which to assess its impact on children. The report states if the provider continues to meet the requirements of registration. This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006

p.2

Description of the setting

Wroughton After School Club opened in 2002. It operates from the hall at Wroughton Infants School and has use of the school’s outdoor play space. A maximum of 32 children aged from four to under eight years may attend the setting at any one time. Sessions are from 14.45 until 18.00. The setting serves the local area. The group employs seven members of staff. Of these, four staff hold playwork qualifications and three are working towards qualifications. This provider is on the Early Years Register, and the compulsory part of the Childcare Register.

p.3

Overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The effectiveness of Wroughton After-School Club for children in the EYFS is satisfactory. Staff ensure there is a safe, welcoming and enjoyable environment for children of all ages. There is a good ‘buddy’ system in place where older children help the EYFS children to settle when they start. The setting has a good commitment to inclusion and ensures children’s specific learning difficulties or disabilities are catered for. Staff plan a satisfactory range of activities for children in the EYFS. Staff know children and their families very well and seek their views on how to improve. This helps the setting to evaluate what it does well and what could be better. The manager recognises that the staff’s skills in observing and assessing EYFS children’s achievements require development so that they accurately plan for children’s individual needs and interests.

p.3

Compliance with registration requirements

The registered person continues to meet the requirements of registration. This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006

p.3

Annex B: the Childcare Register

The provider confirms that the requirements of the compulsory part of the Childcare Register are: Met
