Type of setting Childminder This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006

p.1

Introduction

This inspection was carried out by Ofsted under Sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 on the quality and standards of the registered early years provision. ‘Early years provision’ refers to provision regulated by Ofsted for children from birth to 31 August following their fifth birthday (the early years age group). The registered person must ensure that this provision complies with the statutory framework for children’s learning, development and welfare, known as the Early Years Foundation Stage.

p.2

Introduction

The report includes information on any complaints about the childcare provision which Ofsted has received since the last inspection or registration whichever is the later, which require Ofsted or the provider to take action in Annex C.

p.2

Introduction

The provider must provide a copy of this report to all parents with children at the setting where reasonably practicable. The provider must provide a copy of the report to any other person who asks for one, but may charge a fee for this service (The Childcare (Inspection) Regulations 2008 regulations 9 and 10).

p.2

Introduction

The setting also makes provision for children older than the early years age group which is registered on the voluntary and/or compulsory part(s) of the Childcare Register. This report does not include an evaluation of that provision, but a comment about compliance with the requirements of the Childcare Register is included in Annex B. This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006

p.2

Description of the childminding

The childminder was registered in 2006. She lives with her partner and one year old daughter. They live in a two bedroom house on a residential road in Anerley, within the London borough of Bromley. Children have access to the whole of the home. There is a fully enclosed garden for outside play.

p.3

Description of the childminding

The childminder is registered on the Early Years Register and the compulsory and voluntary parts of the Childcare Register. She is registered to care for two children under eight years old and there is currently one child in the early years age range on roll.

p.3

Description of the childminding

The childminder is a member of the National Childminding Association.

p.3

Overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder provides a welcoming inclusive environment. She works closely with parents to ensure children’s individual needs are met. Children make good progress in their development and learning and enjoy their time at the setting. The childminder has begun to evaluate the service she provides and shows a strong commitment to continual improvement.

p.3

further?

further?

 extend the system for making observations of children's achievements by identifying individual learning priorities and using these to plan relevant experiences for each child  ensure adequate insurance cover is held when using own vehicle whilst childminding.

p.3

further?

To fully meet the specific requirements of the EYFS, the registered person must:

p.3

further?

 ensure written parental permission is requested at the time of the child's admission to the setting, to the seeking of any necessary emergency medical advice or treatment in the future ( Safeguarding and promoting children's welfare). 09/01/2009

p.3

provision

The childminder demonstrates a strong commitment to working closely with parents and other professionals to ensure that children receive good quality care and learning opportunities, in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage. She This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 implements policies and procedures conscientiously, for instance, making sure that parents are aware of any accidents their child has had during the day. There are clear procedures for administering any medicine that children need, however, written permission for seeking any necessary emergency medical advice or treatment is not sought at the time of placement, which could lead to uncertainty in an emergency.

p.3

provision

The childminder values the opportunity to undertake further training in childcare related topics. For example, she has attended a safeguarding course, which means she knows what to do if she has concerns about a child and ensures children are well protected. She has recently begun to use self-assessment, including verbal feedback from parents, to reflect on the provision and monitor its effectiveness. She demonstrates a positive attitude to building on her good practice, which helps improve outcomes for children.

p.4

The quality and standards of the early years provision

Children are happy and settled and they enjoy their time in the childminder's care. The childminder has attended training to develop her knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She is implementing the framework to help children make progress in their learning and development. For example, she has started to collate observations; however, as yet, observations are not used fully to identify plans for the next steps in children's learning. This means at times, that children's learning needs are not always fully extended.

p.4

The quality and standards of the early years provision

The childminder provides a range of play opportunities and activities that help children to make progress. She encourages children's use of early language as she chats to the children as they are going about their daily routine, emphasising key words as the children are beginning to copy some words. Children eagerly look at books and get excited when they turn the page and there is a different texture to feel. They confidently open the toy boxes and choose their own play materials, such as the play tea set. At all times the childminder interacts with the children extending their play and learning. She ensures that the children learn to share and turn take, for example, as she guides the toy cat between the children so they can both enjoy pulling its tail as they laugh and squeal with delight as it makes a noise.

p.4

The quality and standards of the early years provision

The children move freely and safely around the space used for childminding because the childminder takes effective steps to identify and reduce any potential hazards. Children grow in confidence as they help themselves to the good variety of toys and play materials available. They are beginning to learn simple good hygiene routines as the childminder washes their hands after eating and also cleans the changing mat after each nappy change. The childminder has a calm and patient approach and consistently praises the children for their achievements; this promotes children's confidence and self esteem.

p.4

The quality and standards of the early years provision

The childminder demonstrates a clear understanding of the welfare requirements. Suitable procedures are generally in place to support children's overall health and well-being. Most required documentation is in place however the vehicle insurance does not cover business use as required. The childminder has devised This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 comprehensive written policies which outline the service she provides and these are shared with parents. This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006
